The Well-Wishers for the Animals in the Greenbelt Shelter (WAGS) and the Greenbelt Animal Shelter are hosting a Kitten Shower at the New Deal Cafe (113 Centerway, Greenbelt, MD) on Sunday, June 16, 2019, 12-4 p.m. Shelter kittens will be the focus of the event which benefits WAGS.
WAGS is a friends organization of the Greenbelt Animal Shelter and a 501(c)(3) organization. The money raised through fundraisers is used by WAGS to pay for shelter animals’ medical expenses and to enrich the shelter environment. For example, WAGS provided the funds and the volunteers to add wooden cubes to the cat rooms so shelter cats would have areas to hide in when they wanted privacy. The cats love them and use them all the time.
The Kitten Shower has been a popular event over the last few years with whole families attending to see the kittens. This year’s event promises another fun afternoon in which families can see the kittens, enjoy light refreshments, games, crafts, and a raffle of gift baskets. The suggested donation is $5 per person.
As always, the shelter and kittens welcome your donations. Topmost on the needs list are kitten-appropriate food, toys, and gift cards for PetSmart or Amazon. Monetary donations are welcome, too.
I believe I can honestly say that a good time was had by all. Great turnout and a successful event. It’s great to experience community support like this!

As an attendee, I concur. The event appeared quite successful. I hope kittens were adopted (after the vetting process) and WAGS raised the funds needed. (And, oh my goodness, your raffle prizes were splendid. My sister volunteers as a foster parent for a cat rescue organization (Dakota Rescue) in Frederick County Virginia (Winchester VA area). She took notes and is recommending her organization have a “Kitten Shower”.
